Laptop AC Adapter Replacement

Awhile back I wrote about the 90W KG298AA#ABA laptop ac adapter and ironically was recently notified by HP and Compaq that this power adapter spare part number was updated to 463955-001 which just includes a special dongle making it work with even more PC's. For anybody wondering about the size, it's just a 1" tiny cable you connect.

So now we know that part #'s KG298AA is now being sold under 463955-001 and here is the info exactly off the HP's master reference guide list: "90W AC Smart Tip power supply adapter - 100-240VAC input, 47-63Hz - 19.0VDC output, 4.74A, 90 watts, with power factor correction (PFC) - Includes smart tip dongle."

I went through and sorted the working list of laptops into something more reading friendly. If this information can help even just 1 person, then it'd be all worth it and my job is done. *Don't forget that 463955-001 is now the correct notebook ac part number for all of the laptop computer models and series below:

Compaq Presario A900 C700 CQ50-100 CQ60-100 CQ60-200 CQ60-300 CQ61-100 CQ70-100 CQ70-200 CQ71-100 F500 F700 V6500 V6600 notebooks.

I was also surprised to find out that this particular laptop ac adapter is also the new standard p/n for HP Mini Note and HP Mini 1100 series, HP TouchSmart tx2-1100 model and the HP G3200 notebook series.

If you need just the dongle adapter connector itself, you'll have to search and order hp compaq part number 414136-001. Bad news is the dongle is only available online (I would suggest trying eBay first) but on a good note, it is very cheap... costing no more than $5 shipped.

UPDATE AS OF 2/25/2011: Once again, HP has updated it's part number system and now this laptop ac adapter goes under 613153-001 but still is compatible with the same notebooks.

If you own a Dell laptop, there is a good chance your laptop ac adapter part number is PA-12 (some may also include 5U092). Basically the Dell PA-12 is a original 90W Dell Inspiron and Latitude laptop ac adapter. The details of this laptop adapter are 90 Watts, using 4.62 Amp Hours and a 19.5V output voltage and requires a unique dell 3 prong power style of laptop power cord.

Computing power is never far away when you've got a extra 239704-001 / 417220-001 65W AC adapter specially designed for the HP & Compaq Series Laptops requiring a 18.5V and 3.5A AC power adapter.

Over time I noticed that the 2 most common part numbers that I do come across with these specific laptops were 239704-001 and 239427-001 which is a "HP Compaq AC adapter (65 watt) - 110-240VAC input voltage, 50-60Hz, 2.4A - 18.5VDC output voltage, 65-watt - Requires a separate 3-wire AC power cord with C5 connector".

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR THIS HP LAPTOP POWER SUPPLY: HP has done it again; new updated replacement part numbers for the new years ac adapter laptop lineup. If your having trouble finding 239704-001... that is because the new 2011 part number is 613149-001 which specs are 100% identical besides the difference in PN's.

Dell recently started using slimline ac power adapters for the more current notebooks requiring a 90W laptop ac adapter. The most recognizable part no. would definitely have to be the PA-3E family. The PA-3E is the genuine replacement to previous dell PA-10 and is still compatible in models like the latitude, precision, vostro, studio and XPS which require 90 watts. The only difference is the newer one's are slim, about half the size of the dell's last laptop ac adapter.

After much research and getting confirmation by Dell, these PA-3E can go under any of these part numbers: PA-3E, PA3-E, WK890, Y807G, 330-1826, Y808G, 330-1825, 330-1828, D094H, 330-1827, C120H, CM889, FA90PE1-00, DA90PE1-00, ADP-90VH B, WK890.

On a original dell laptop ac adapter you will find the following specs: Voltage: 19.5V and output power 90W ~ 4.62A. *Most of the notebooks using this part number require a unique 3-prong type of power cord which is supplied with the part when you purchase it from any company.*

Hans, my dear, I’m afraid we’ve had a misunderstanding.

I told you once that “wherever I find myself, I can adapt”, apparently you took that to mean it’d be no problem for me if we moved into a tree house in a remote corner of the HP Republic of the Compaq Jungles to live out your dream.

Now, I admit tropical living has its charms. (There’s always a new aroma on the air and I'd never be able to experience this back home... I've never seen so many brightly colored transforming animals before!)

But when I said “I can adapt” all I really meant was that I had a couple extra KG298AA 90W Smart AC laptop adapters for my notebook which I keep one in the car and the other at work. So, you know, if I was at Starbucks or something important! - I could do a little emailing or get my tweet out without worrying about my battery dying and my coffee from getting cold. I never have to leave Facebook either, I mean what doesn't this adapter do?

Funny, now, to think that a computers battery charge was ever even on my top thousand worries! Since we’ve lived in Compaq Jungles, I’ve been at robbed four times, I’ve suffered an animal trampling, and I even had a close call with an active volcano on what was supposed to be our “romantic anniversary picnic” as I’m sure you’ll remember.
