KG298AA HP Compaq Smart-Tip 90W AC Adapter

HP Compaq Smart 90W Laptop AC Adapter Hans, my dear, I’m afraid we’ve had a misunderstanding.

I told you once that “wherever I find myself, I can adapt”, apparently you took that to mean it’d be no problem for me if we moved into a tree house in a remote corner of the HP Republic of the Compaq Jungles to live out your dream.

Now, I admit tropical living has its charms. (There’s always a new aroma on the air and I'd never be able to experience this back home... I've never seen so many brightly colored transforming animals before!)

But when I said “I can adapt” all I really meant was that I had a couple extra KG298AA 90W Smart AC laptop adapters for my notebook which I keep one in the car and the other at work. So, you know, if I was at Starbucks or something important! - I could do a little emailing or get my tweet out without worrying about my battery dying and my coffee from getting cold. I never have to leave Facebook either, I mean what doesn't this adapter do?

Funny, now, to think that a computers battery charge was ever even on my top thousand worries! Since we’ve lived in Compaq Jungles, I’ve been at robbed four times, I’ve suffered an animal trampling, and I even had a close call with an active volcano on what was supposed to be our “romantic anniversary picnic” as I’m sure you’ll remember.

Hans, I know a little something about compatibility. You know the notebook PC I had back home? That 17" HP laptop you bought
for me? Well, you should have seen it the KG298AA#ABA, 239428-001, 239705-001 plugged into one. That was compatibility, right there. After thinking back on it now, I don’t know why I couldn’t see that we just didn’t have it.

I’ll be gone by the time you read this, Hans, If you read this. All I could find to write with was a stick dipped in the crushed bodies of these weird purple beetles that seem to get into everything.

But even if you never read these words, Hans, I’m sure you’ll understand my decision. I can’t handle this life. I’m going back to what I used to have... to my old job, my old apartment, my old trust worthy HP Smart 90W adapter, the whole dang show.

I know I’ll never forget this time we spent together, though I’ll sure try. And I hope you find your Compaq blood roots. Hans, I really do. And when you do, I hope he tears you into pieces and devours you because now I lost my Facebook top 10 position and you know how I am with being #1.

Good To Know Important Information on the HP 90W Smart AC Adapter:

1. Enjoy the flexibility and convenience of having an extra 90W Smart-pin AC Adapter for your notebook, whether you’re at home, in the office, or traveling. You can leave one at your desk and keep the other in your bag for quick plug-in, no more climbing under the desk to plug and unplug.

2. You are actually saving energy over time: the Smart-pin technology reduces power consumption when the maximum adapter rating is reached. Recharge the battery, whether the PC is on or off, when plugged in an electrical outlet. Protect your system from surges with the built-in surge protector.

3. Connects to most non smart-pin HP and Compaq notebooks with a included dongle adapter which makes this ac adapter the most popular and used laptop accessory for the past few years!

This laptop ac adapter is compatible with a whole assortment of machines which I was nice enough to list below:

HP: dv4, dv7, dv5, dv2000, dv3000, dv6000, dx6000, dv9000, tx1000, tx2000, dv1000, dv4000, dv5000, dv8000, ze4900, G3000, G5000, G6000, G7000, L2000, 510, 530, nc82xx, nw82xx, nx82xx, nx9000, 2510p, 2710p, 6510b, 6515b, 6710b, 6715b, 6720s, 6820s, 6910p, 8510p, 8510w, 8710p, 8710w, nc2400, nc4010, nc4200, nc4400, nc6120, nc6140, nc6220, nc6230, nc6320, nc6400, nc8230, nc8430, nw8240, nw8440, nw9440, nx6110, nx6115, nx6325, nx7300, nx7400, nx9420, nx9600, tc4200, tc4400 laptop series.

Last but not least... here is some very detailed information for all you techies out there "90W AC Smart Tip power supply adapter - 100-240VAC input, 47-63Hz - 19.0VDC output, 4.74A, 90 watts, with power factor correction (PFC) - Includes smart tip dongle" which was all taken right off the retail box.

HP has done it again; new updated replacement part numbers for the new year. The KG298AA was changed to 613153-001 which both are identical besides the difference in PN's.

  8. that is fantastic to hear. if you ever have a question, feel free to ask.

  9. I have been seeing so many complaints about the KG298AA adapter but I’m not sure why so many people have problems with it. I’ve had it for at least a year and it works great with my dv6000 (only difference is the part number on the stick is 609940-001 which is only because HP updated it when newer laptop models came out). If more people would just check the compatibility chart to make sure it fit’s your laptop, no one would have any problems with it.

Do you think people are not aware of what the included dongle does making the adapter not work with certain laptops causing the complaints? I mean it’s just a laptop ac adapter – it either works or doesn’t. I would like to hear your thoughts on the KG298AA considering it’s one of the most used power supply for HP laptops and have you ever ran into trouble with it?

Keep up the good information, I am sure you are saving people the hassle of buying the wrong part for their notebook.

Hi, I am hoping you can help me. I have a HP DV6z Quad laptop which came with a hp part number 608428-005 and the spare # is 609940-001″. I ended up wanting to get a extra one to avoid carrying one between home and work.

I contacted HP directly and they asked for the p/n off my original. I got the laptop ac adapter in the mail from HP the other day but this power supply had HP Part No. 608428-001 but had the same spares part no. “Replace With Spare: 609940-001″.

Is this the right replacement for my laptop and is it safe to use because my old hp adapter said 608428-005 while the new one ends with a -001 (even though the new one works I am still worried). From what I see the only technical difference is the original one says 1.6A input while the new one HP sent me says 1.5A input.

Any information you could tell me on the safety is using the part numbers I mentioned above would be great. Rather be safe than having a potential fire threat in the future.
