Hi, I am hoping you can help me. I have a HP DV6z Quad laptop which came with a hp part number 608428-005 and the spare # is 609940-001". I ended up wanting to get a extra one to avoid carrying one between home and work.

I contacted HP directly and they asked for the p/n off my original. I got the laptop ac adapter in the mail from HP the other day but this power supply had HP Part No. 608428-001 but had the same spares part no. "Replace With Spare: 609940-001".

Is this the right replacement for my laptop and is it safe to use because my old hp adapter said 608428-005 while the new one ends with a -001 (even though the new one works I am still worried). From what I see the only technical difference is the original one says 1.6A input while the new one HP sent me says 1.5A input.

Any information you could tell me on the safety is using the part numbers I mentioned above would be great. Rather be safe than having a potential fire threat in the future.

I have been seeing so many complaints about the KG298AA adapter but I'm not sure why so many people have problems with it. I've had it for at least a year and it works great with my dv6000 (only difference is the part number on the stick is 609940-001 which is only because HP updated it when newer laptop models came out). If more people would just check the compatibility chart to make sure it fit's your laptop, no one would have any problems with it.

Do you think people are not aware of what the included dongle does making the adapter not work with certain laptops causing the complaints? I mean it's just a laptop ac adapter - it either works or doesn't. I would like to hear your thoughts on the KG298AA considering it's one of the most used power supply for HP laptops and have you ever ran into trouble with it?

Keep up the good information, I am sure you are saving people the hassle of buying the wrong part for their notebook.
